A few years ago, some Toyota vehicles were reported as having a "sludgy oil" or "engine oil gelling" problem. That is, the oil was turning to a paste and ruining the engine. But don't let that stop you from considering used Toyota trucks and cars for purchase. Toyota reports that there were only about 3,400 sludgy engines out of close to 3.3 million sold. Also, Toyota's reputation for building reliable and economic vehicles still stands strong. Regular oil and oil filter changes are very important (as they are with any car), so keep up your maintenance every 3,000 miles or so -- and keep the receipts of all services for your records.
